We all live and breathe in a world that is controlled by the media. It is present everywhere we go through advertisements and just normal everyday newscasters. This media is not here for your benefit, this is only here for the profits of the big corporations who try to target people like me and you. Even this type of media control is present in items that we read such as newspapers. Rather than just give us relevant news, newspaper companies sell pages of their paper to companies so they could capture the public. The mediated world that we live in can also cause a lot of harm because of the real grip it has on the whole human population. We all tend to believe whatever we see first because we are all too lazy to look for extra proof to back up those statements. We don’t realize that the majority of the information we find online nowadays is fake and people are using these ways of showcasing fake news to trick the public. Even these pieces of fake news can bring sadness to people living in the world, because the news can be touching to their heart. I personally believe that there should be a penalty for spreading false narratives to the public. It will clean up the information that people are receiving on a daily basis and people will be more informed on what is actually relevant to our society.
Nevertheless we all have to be better as a society and be less lazy. As we have gotten used to information being delivered to our fingertips tips we have gotten lazy and forgotten that not everything is true. We should be looking up a certain topic to see if it is coming from multiple sources before we can even believe it is true. Doing this will not only make us smarter as an individual it will really showcase to everyone the more relevant problems we have in society.
Students should be taught about media literacy so they are well informed of the dangers from an early age. Technology is slowly moving to lower age groups so the time to teach kids needs to slowly start getting younger. It is clear that media sites are causing sadness for all teens around the world because teen suicide rates are on a constant rise. Media presents unrealistic body images for growing girls and these girls feel an abundance of sadness knowing that they cannot meet these “ideal” goals. We all should take a step back from these media outlets and look out for teens because we all need support to fix these problems.
