The Day That Was Filled With Sadness and Sorrow

Updated: Jan 12, 2022

September 11, 2001, was a day of great sadness and despair for everyone around the world. The world stood still during those few minutes when the first plane hit the first of the two towers. The sadness that dwelled over the entire planet during the moment is unmeasurable to any other moment in everyone's lives. In the short story “The Dead of 9/11” we are put into the world of how the people must have felt being in those towers knowing that it was their final moments on this planet. The sadness that those people must have felt because they knew that they could not do anything to save themselves, and they also knew that they would never be able to see their loved ones again. Sadness must have fallen on all the people who are families of the people working in the twin towers. Not knowing whether or not their loved ones would come home that night was probably some of the longest moments in their lives, but when the news comes home that your family member has passed away it must be devastating. The author of the story put us the readers into the world that these people were experiencing, I could sense the panic and the fear during those moments.

I could never imagine what it must be like for those people sitting in those buildings during the final minutes of their lives. From the panic to the fear that these people were experiencing, I wonder if people knew that their death was close so they decided to use this time to reflect and look back at their lives. During these moments they could think about anything and everything that they had happened in their lives. Sadness could have filled these people if they felt that they did not complete everything they wanted in their lives or they could feel relaxed knowing that they have left their step on the world and they know that they have done enough in this world. “The Dead of 9/11” really captured how people felt during those times and putting myself into the shoes of those people makes me feel a little bit different in the situation.
