The Disappearing Dreams of Walter

Updated: Jan 25, 2022

Every person on Earth has dreams to be something in life. Every individual is looking for their moment in their time where their life will shine above everyone else. In the story A Raisin In The Sun a man named Walter has his dreams taken away from him because of his unforgiving living conditions. Watching another mans dreams slowly die on the inside hurts to see because everyone's goals and dreams are special and most definitely one of a kind. Walter dreamt of giving his son a bright future so his son would be proud of his father and look up to him in awe for setting him up with a beautiful future. I was able to pull out sadness from this story when Walter was expressing his feelings towards Ruth. As a reader I was able to sense the sadness that Walter was dealing at that very moment when he knew he was not able to give his son the dream future that he always wanted to give him. Walter was willing to sacrifice everything he had to give his son the proper path to success but the constant neglection of his ideas only brought sadness his way.

As a boy who will one day grow up to be a man, I can only think about what will come in my future. I hope to have kids and my own family to take care of. I pray and hope that I can lead or guide my kids to a successful future that is filled with joy, love, and compassion. I hope to give my son and daughter more than I ever had, and I want to give them knowledge so they do not make the same mistakes that I made during my lifetime. If I were to ever not give my kids the life that gives them nothing but happiness and joy I would feel like a failure and it would fill me up with sadness that is beyond your most wild imagination. Sadness that Walter experienced is felt by many men around the world because they want nothing more than their kids to be proud of them.
