The Sadness Cause By A Lie

The truth is something that we can sway when we talk to another person who knows little to nothing about a situation. In the short story “The Necklace” a lady makes up a whole lie to retrieve something that meant so little to the owner. If the lady simply told the truth from the beginning and admitted to her loss all of this hardship and pain that she experienced in her life would have never happened. It is so easy to speak of the truth to another person, but there is a part of our minds that almost tricks us into telling a variation of the truth that turns the whole table on what is true. We tend to do this not only to hide something from others but to also have a one-up on other people in our lives. It was present in the story that the lady wanted to hide the truth from the owner of the necklace, so she decided to just make up a lie to fix her wrongdoings. In the end, those lies and the tampering of the truth can do nothing but have negative side effects on you and everyone who you have mixed up into your problem. For the lady she lost so many years of her life working hard trying to repay for that necklace and her husband was stuck trying to do the same to help her for that small error.

I believe that the truth is the first thing that you should tell anyone when it comes to giving them information. Some people tend to lie to others simply to gain an advantage over the other person, but what advantage do you have? It is simply just a bit of knowledge that could either be completely wrong or could harm you in the long term if people believe that something else is the real truth. The world that we know would be a better place if we all told each other the truth, rather than being hungry for a little bit of power over one another. This story “The Necklace” should be a sign to people, that telling the truth will cause you nothing but good even if it may hurt at first, but telling a lie will only hurt you in the long term and make you feel sad.
